The Birkin 40 is no longer in current production, making examples in collector-grade condition increasingly scarce in the authenticated resale market. In noir - the most enduring of the house's colourways - and Ardennes leather, this piece reflects an earlier chapter of the Birkin's history.
Ardennes, a textured, rugged grain produced during the 1990s and early 2000s, was discontinued and subsequently replaced by Togo. Its comparative rarity today adds to the archival interest of any piece crafted in it. The larger 40 cm format carries considerably more than the current standard sizes and suits the collector who prioritises capacity alongside provenance.
