The Birkin 40 in étoupe Togo leather is a study in considered restraint. Étoupe - a warm grey with undertones that shift between taupe and stone depending on the light - is one of the most enduring Hermès colourways, and Togo's pebbled grain provides both tactile richness and practical resilience. The leather is supple, scratch-resistant, and develops a refined patina with careful use over time.
At 40 cm, this is the Birkin configuration that travels. It accommodates documents, a tablet, and the essentials of a working day without sacrificing the silhouette's clean front profile. Palladium hardware - turnlock, padlock, and clochette - is presented in bright, unscratched condition. Contrast white saddle stitching runs the perimeter with the precision expected of house construction.
The Birkin 40 has largely given way to the 35 in current production, making authenticated examples of this size increasingly difficult to source. This piece carries a blind stamp engraved with P, placing production in the relevant year. Full condition report available on request.
